I approached a display in Madewell to check out some striped shirts and a nearby associate turned to me, gave me an up-down and a very unpleasant look, and informed me, “don’t bother, there are only extra smalls left.” I was totally taken aback so I tried to play it off like it was no big deal and told her that yeah, that’s not what I’m looking for. This has been a really rough weekend.

I’ve been having terrible enough body image and eating problems recently as it is. But getting blatantly fat-shamed in Madewell at Tyson’s really sent me over the edge. And even worse, my own mother is ignoring the problem.

I just want help. I have no tools to do so. It takes every fibre of my being to behave kind of normally. I need help going farther. Something needs to change, and soon.
